The 6 Most Important Things You Should Consider Before
Choosing A Security Company

  1. Experience - Do they have specialist trained staff?

It’s long been an issue in the security industry that “anybody can be a security guard” and to a degree that’s still the case. However, the most professional companies do choose trained staff and indeed keep training and retraining them to make them the best in their field. Check to ensure that the company you choose employs only specialist, highly trained staff … If they do you will have peace of mind that your business or premises is being left in safe hands … hands you can trust.

  2. Accreditations - Have they been accredited and audited by an industry recognised organisation?

Ensure that your security company are accredited and audited. Look for evidence of membership to top organisations such as the SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board), which has UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accreditation.

Check also for further evidence that’ll ensure you get the best possible such as the ISO9001 quality management system and membership of the BSIA (British Security Industry Association).

  3. Training - Are all employees trained to the correct and appropriate standards?

Find out if the company employs its own trainers … and are the “trainers” approved by SITO (Security Industry Training Organisation) to train staff to the standard required by the SIA for registration and licensing. This is a standard, which, is a pre requisite for all officers.

  4. Insurance - Have they got full insurance to cover all services they provide?

Your guards should be there to ensure you have no problems but if for any reason there is an issue, will you be covered by their insurance?
Check to establish whether your guarding company has full and comprehensive insurance cover giving to give you, the client, total peace of mind.

  5. Vetting - Are the staff left at your premises vetted to the British Standard BS7858/2004?

It’s critical that you confirm this vetting. If your guards are vetted to this standard then you can be absolutely sure that you’re dealing with a genuine company. It’s also a good idea to establish how your security company further checks the honesty and integrity of their staff such as getting a full, authenticated, 10 years previous employment history in writing.

  6. Account Manager - Do they provide you with your own account manager to deal with you personally?

Find out if you’ll be provided with your own account manager to keep you informed and in control. Up to date reporting and information are a vital part of keeping your people, your possessions and your premises safe.
